Land Rover TDi engine
« on: 21, November,2009, 14:31 »
A friend is after a Land Rover 300TDi or 200TDi engine.

Preferably a Defender one but a Discovery would be considered.

Anyone know of anything that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

what gearbox is in the defender that will dictate engine choice to some degree

if its an LT77 then 200tdi

if its r380 then 300tdi

its not really an either or choice unless he wants to do a lot of work

I think there is an LT77 in the vehicle, and a R380 in the barn.

if its an lt77 then look for a 200tdi it will be a straight drop in, whilst he has a 380 box and the 300dti will mate to that there are a lot of other bits that need to be changed alterered to fit the 300tdi.  ie engine/gearbox mounts  gearbox x member, transmission tunnel, seatbox and a few other odds and sods

It's for the Tomcat, he's no stranger to welding in new engine/gearbox mountings.
The tunnel is much higher and wider than a Defender
